What to Expect on Sundays

New to Flagstaff Christian Fellowship?

Walking into a new church (even if you have been a life-long Christian) can be intimidating. This guide is here to help you get a sense of what will happen when you arrive so your visit will be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
FCF has two Sunday morning services. The first is from 9:00-10:30 am and the second from 11:00-12:30 pm. Between services we have a time of fellowship to build community with each other.

During second service (11:00-12:30 pm), we offer several Sunday School classes for all ages. We have Children's Sunday School, Youth Sunday School, and Adult Sunday School.

We believe one of the healthiest steps a family can take is to become a two-service family. We envision a family worshiping together through first service and then worshiping in age appropriate Sunday schools during second service. An unintentional by-product of not singing, praying, and sitting under the Word together as a family is to train children that the main service is not for them and more.

We have free parking available in a parking lot that is located diagonally across the intersection of Beaver and Benton. Parking is also available on side streets surrounding the church. Please note that parking on Beaver Street is Pay-to-Park, while parking on Benton Avenue or Cottage Avenue is free on Sundays. Please do not park in the shopping center immediately across Beaver street from the church. There is a small lot that houses minimal handicapped parking behind the church.

FAQs

The following FAQ provides answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about FCF and our Sunday mornings.
WHAT DENOMINATION IS YOUR CHURCH?
Flagstaff Christian Fellowship (FCF) is a baptist church associated with Southwest Church Connection a ministry of the CBA.
WHAT IS IT LIKE INSIDE YOUR BUILDING?
Our church building is considered a historic landmark in Flagstaff. You'll find our campus clean, bright, welcoming, and full of friendly people. Greeters are stationed in the entrance, main hallway, and are available for any questions you have.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR IF I VISIT YOUR CHURCH?
Wear whatever you think is best for worshipping God. The majority of people dress casually, in true Flagstaff style (think jeans and a nice shirt).  You are welcome to dress up or dress down as you'd like!
WHAT DO YOU DO DURING YOUR WORSHIP SERVICE?
We pray, sing, read Scripture, hear from God's Word, and take communion each week.  You'll find worship at Flagstaff to be non-intimidating and enriching.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC IS SUNG DURING YOUR WORSHIP?
We have a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary Christian songs carefully chosen and led by our worship team. We not only enjoy the music but also the congregational singing as we encourage one another in the Lord. We view the congregation as the choir and one’s heart as the chief instrument in worship. Because of this, we keep the volume at a welcoming and engaging level. If you don't know the words, that's ok! Feel free to wait and join in when you're ready!
WILL THERE BE COMMUNION WHEN I VISIT?
We invite any baptized believer, in good standing with their home church, to participate with us.

Our practice is to protect the table by reminding those who intend to take communion to consider the solemn joy of the symbols of Jesus’ body and blood. In keeping with 1 Corinthians 11:27–29, we encourage believers to “examine themselves, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup” so as to partake in a worthy manner.

We regularly invite people to pray quietly with those they came with before the Pastor leads us to eat together. If you are not a believer, we ask that you not to take communion.

To serve communion, we pass plates through the sanctuary. You will stay seated and if you are not prepared to take communion, please pass the plate without taking the communion elements. You are welcome to stay quiet during this time or ask someone sitting near you to pray with you.
WILL THERE BE INSTRUCTION FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH?
During our 11:00am service, we offer Sunday School for Nursery - 5th grade children. Check-in for kids’ Sunday School is at the bottom of the stairs and happens during the break between first and second service. We also offer middle school and high school Sunday School during the 11:00am service. You can also visit the children and student pages on this site to learn more.
MAY I GIVE AN OFFERING AS A FAITHFUL ACT OF WORSHIP?
You are welcome to give if you would like to do so. In addition to online giving, we have offering boxes stationed near the doors for convenience. Visit our Giving Page.
ARE YOU FINANCIALLY ACCOUNTABLE TO ANYONE?
FCF is completely transparent about our finances. The membership of FCF votes annually on the budget after having been presented by the Elders and Finance Team. The Finance team provides weekly updates along with quarterly presentations at our Covenant-Member meetings.
