Christ the Cornerstone, Part 3

Here is a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon 'Christ the Cornerstone, Part 3' from May 18th, 2025.

Day 1: God's Sovereign Love Reading: Psalm 2:1-12
Devotional: As we read Psalm 2, we're reminded of God's sovereign rule over all creation. Despite the nations' rage and plots against Him, God remains in control. His love is demonstrated through His Son, Jesus, whom He has  named King. Today, reflect on how God's sovereignty brings comfort in times of turmoil. How does knowing that God laughs at the futile attempts of earthly powers to thwart His plans strengthen your faith? Consider areas in your life where you need to surrender control to God and "kiss the Son" in reverent submission.

Day 2: Boldness in Persecution Reading: Acts 4:23-31
Devotional: The early church faced intense persecution, yet they responded with prayer and boldness. Instead of cowering in fear, they asked God for courage to continue preaching the gospel. Today, consider the challenges you face in sharing your faith. Are there "threats" that intimidate you? Remember that the same Holy Spirit who filled the early believers is available to you. Pray for boldness to speak God's word, even in difficult circumstances. How might God be calling you to step out in faith today?

Day 3: God's Predestining Providence Reading: Romans 8:28-39
Devotional: Today's passage reminds us that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him. Even in suffering, we can trust His providential plan. Reflect on a difficult situation in your life. How might God be using it for your good and His glory? Remember that nothing can separate us from God's love in Christ Jesus. Let this truth embolden you to face challenges with confidence, knowing that God's purposes will prevail.

Day 4: The Mystery of Divine Sovereignty and Human Responsibility Reading: Philippians 2:12-13
Devotional: Today we grapple with the mystery of God's sovereignty and our responsibility. Paul encourages us to "work out our salvation with fear and trembling," while acknowledging that it is God who works in us. How does this tension play out in your life? Reflect on areas where you need to take action in obedience to God, trusting that He is empowering you. Pray for discernment to recognize God's work in your life and the courage to cooperate with His purposes.

Day 5: Suffering for Christ's Sake Reading: 1 Peter 4:12-19
Devotional: Peter reminds us that suffering for Christ is not strange, but an opportunity to participate in His sufferings and rejoice. As you read, consider how your perspective on trials might change if you viewed them as a means of identifying with Jesus. Are there ways you're currently suffering for your faith? How can you rejoice in these difficulties, knowing that God is present and working through them? Pray for strength to endure, and for your suffering to be a powerful witness to others of Christ's worth and sufficiency.
