The many proofs of jesus
Here is a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon ‘Many Proofs of Jesus’ from January 19th, 2025.
Day 1: The Reality of Christ. Readings: Acts 1:1-3, Luke 1:1-4
Devotional: Today we reflect on the historical reality of Jesus Christ. Luke, a meticulous historian, uses eyewitness accounts to document Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. In a world quick to dismiss the supernatural, we 'can be confident that our faith is grounded in real events that happened in time and space.
Consider how the reality of Christ impacts your daily life. Jesus isn't just a legend, but a historical figure who lived, died, and rose again. How does that fact change how you approach your faith? Spend time thanking God for the gift of reliable, biblical testimony about Jesus and ask Him to strengthen your conviction of the truth of the gospel.
Day 2: The Suffering Savior Reading: Isaiah 53:3-6, 1 Peter 2:21-25
Devotional: Jesus' suffering on the cross wasn't just a historical event. It was a divine act of love for you personally. Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah's suffering centuries before it happened, and Peter reflects on its significance for believers.
As you read these passages, meditate on the depth of Christ's love which he demonstrated through His willingness to suffer. How does this sacrificial love change how you perceive your own struggles? Take time to confess any areas where you've been holding back from fully embracing God's love. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you live in light of Christ's sacrifice today.
Day 3: The Power of the Resurrection. Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20, Romans 8:11
Devotional: The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith. Paul points out that without the resurrection, our faith would be futile. But Christ has indeed been raised, becoming the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Reflect on the power that raised Jesus from the dead. That same power is in you through the Holy Spirit. How does the reality of the resurrection give you hope in the face of death, sin, and daily struggles? Ask God to help you live today in the power of the resurrection. Apply the Holy Spirit’s power to help you overcome fear and walk in newness of life.
Day 4: Fulfilled Prophecy and God's Faithfulness. Reading: Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1-6, Psalm 22:16-18, John 19:23-24.
Devotional: The fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies in Jesus' life demonstrates God's faithfulness and sovereign control over history. From details about His birth to specifics of His death, Jesus fulfilled countless prophecies, thus confirming His identity as the Messiah.
As you read these prophecies and their fulfillment, consider God's faithfulness in your own life. How has He proven Himself trustworthy in the past? Where do you need to trust Him more fully for your future? Pray for increased faith to believe God's promises, even when circumstances seem impossible.
Day 5: Living as Witnesses. Reading: Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20
Devotional: Just as the apostles were eyewitnesses to Christ's resurrection, we too are called to be witnesses of the transforming power of the gospel in our lives. Jesus promises the Holy Spirit's power to enable us to be faithful witnesses as we obey his command to make disciples of all nations.
Reflect on your role as a witness for Christ. How has your life been changed by the gospel? In what ways can you more effectively share this good news with others? Ask God for boldness and opportunities to share your faith, and for the Holy Spirit's guidance in living a life that testifies to the reality of the risen Christ.
